Minutes played affects how much of a player's score counts. If a player plays 45 minutes or more, they score in full. If they play between 30 and 44 minutes, they score 50% of their calculated points. If they play fewer than 30 minutes, only 20% counts. Players who don't come off the bench at all score 0 points — so picking a reliable starter is part of the strategy.
You pick 5 players every gameweek — one goalkeeper, one defender, one midfielder, one forward, and one free pick (any outfield player). You can pick up to 2 players from the same Premier League club.
No — once the gameweek deadline passes, your picks are locked. Make sure you've finalised your 5 picks before the deadline. The app will notify you 24 hours and 3 hours before the deadline so you don't miss it.
Yes — when a new gameweek opens, your previous picks are automatically carried over as your starting lineup. You can change any or all of them before the deadline. If you're happy with your picks, you don't need to do anything.
Scores are calculated using real match statistics collected and provided by a third party firm — things like pass accuracy, number of tackles, shots, goals conceded, red cards and own goals. Results are updated after all matches in the gameweek are complete. Due to different providers holding different definitions, it may be possible there is a small variance of statistics. As the app grows, we will look to address this.
Results are updated after all Premier League matches in a gameweek are complete — usually by Tuesday. You'll receive a push notification when your scores are in. During a gameweek with multiple match days, scores update progressively as each match finishes.
The OG 8Hater badge is a permanent golden badge awarded to anyone who joins 8Watchers before 2028. It's a mark of honour for early adopters — displayed on your profile and on the leaderboard for everyone to see.
Yes — 8Watchers is completely free to download and play. There are no subscriptions, no in-app purchases and no premium tiers. Everyone competes on the same leaderboard.
You can delete your account at any time from the Profile screen inside the app. Tap the person icon in the top right of the home screen, scroll to the bottom and tap Delete account. Your data will be permanently removed within 30 days.

What personal data we collect
We collect and process the following personal data when you create an account:
- Email address — used to authenticate your account, send verification emails, and communicate important service updates
- Username — a display name you choose, not required to be your real name
- Team name — a display name you choose for the leaderboard
- Account creation date
- Gameplay data — your picks and scores within the app
We do not collect your real name, address, phone number, payment information, or any other sensitive personal data.
Why we collect your data
We process your personal data on the following legal bases:
- Contract performance — to provide you with the 8Watchers service you have signed up for
- Legitimate interests — to maintain the security and integrity of our platform, prevent abuse, and improve our service
- Legal obligation — to comply with applicable laws and regulations
We do not use your data for advertising purposes and we do not sell your data to third parties.
How we store your data
Your data is stored securely using industry-standard cloud infrastructure compliant with UK GDPR and EU GDPR requirements.
We use third-party cloud infrastructure provided by Google to store and process your data. Google acts as a data processor on our behalf under appropriate data processing agreements.
We retain your personal data for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, your personal data will be deleted within 30 days.
